Boys' basketball: Fairfax falls in Nike Extravaganza
Los Angeles Fairfax didn't put up much competition in its Nike Extravaganza game, losing to Wheeler from Marietta, Ga., 79-51. Jelan Kendrick had 16 points and Phil Taylor 15 for Wheeler.
Jordan Weathers had 19 points for the Lions.
Fairfax is 13-9 heading into an important Western League game on Monday against L.A. University. The Lions are in second place behind Westchester and hoping to secure a No. 4 seed for the City Section Division I playoffs when the seedings are decided on Saturday.
The Lions have played a tough schedule but they are also having trouble stopping teams on defense. Wheeler (18-4) simply overpowered the Lions.
After the game, former Arizona Coach Lute Olson was honored in a presentation. Next up is Mater Dei-Bishop Gorman, followed by Taft-St. Patrick.
