Baseball: Capistrano Valley is loaded with pitchers

There must be a pitching pill being slipped into the drinking water at Mission Viejo Capistrano Valley. The Cougars won the Southern Section Division I championship last season behind pitcher Tyler Matzek, and now that he’s off to the minor leagues, people might think the team is lacking pitching. Forget it.

Among the returnees are Oregon-bound Brandon Brennan, UC Irvine-bound Lee Casas and Irvine-bound Bryan Clough. And there’s at least two others ready to contribute.

And veteran Coach Bob Zamora has one other statistic worth noting. His teams have played in six championship games, three at Dodger Stadium and three at Angel Stadium, and they’re 6-0, so the strategy for opponents had better be beat the Cougars before they get into the final.
