Golfer Slovis, swimmer Murez set for recognition

Golfer Daniel Slovis from Woodland Hills El Camino Real and swimmer Andi Murez from Venice will be honored on Jan. 30 as the male and female high school athletes of the year by the Southern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.

Slovis won the City Section golf championship as a junior. Murez, a freshman at Stanford, won five gold medals and four silvers at the Maccabi Games last summer in Israel after dominating at the City Section swim championships.

They will be honored during the 14th induction ceremony at the Skirball Cultural Center & Museum. Among the latest class set to be inducted are former Taft basketball standout Jordan Farmar, former Granada Hills baseball star Ryan Braun and Santa Clarita Golden Valley baseball Coach Scott Drootin.
