Girls’ basketball: La Cañada’s Shannon Denney shatters school’s scoring record

La Cañada’s senior center Shannon Denney scored a school-record 42 points Friday night to lead the Spartans to a 76-33 Rio Hondo league opener victory. She broke Melissa Lord’s record of 40 points in the 1991-1992 season.

Denney single-handedly outscored San Marino’s entire team. She was 20 for 23 from the field and grabbed 15 rebounds.

She is the leading scorer for La Cañada (14-3), averaging 14.1 points a game, and the Rio Hondo league’s reigning shot put champion.
