St. John Bosco went back to the future in hiring Jason Negro, a 1991 graduate of the school, to replace the fired Kiki Mendoza as its football coach.

Negro spent the last seven years at Trabuco Hills, where his teams reached section title games in 2007 and 2009. Negro’s teams went 40-14 over the last four years.

‘Coming back home to St. John Bosco High School is a tremendous opportunity for me and my family,’ Negro said in a statement released by the school. ‘I am thoroughly excited to get started as soon as possible.’

Negro previously was defensive coordinator and coached defensive backs at St. John Bosco for three years beginning in 1998. His coaching style is a no-huddle, fast-paced attack as well as physical and aggressive defense.

He lettered in football and baseball at St. John Bosco before obtaining a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Cal State Dominguez Hills.
