Bill Redell said Friday he has decided to remain as football coach at Westlake Village Oaks Christian after considering retirement.

It will be his 11th season with the Lions, where is record is 121-12-1. His decision to return was helped by the decision to promote long-time assistant Mark Bates to assistant head coach and reduce some of Redell’s on-the-field responsibilities.

Redell said he considered retiring because of continuing back problems from an automobile accident.

‘I hated to give it up,’ he said.

By returning, he knows the Lions will be facing their toughest challenge yet moving to the Marmonte League this fall.
