Rancho Verde defensive end-linebacker Ronald Powell will learn tonight whether he has been selected as the U.S. Army All-American Bowl’s player of the year and/or lineman of the year. He is a finalist for both awards.

‘I’m extremely honored,’ Powell said this afternoon of being nominated.

Powell will play at 10 a.m. PST Saturday in the bowl game at the Alamodome in San Antonio, which will be nationally televised by NBC.

‘It’s an honor on top of an honor just to be here playing with all these great players,’ Powell said. ‘I don’t think there’s a high school game in the country that has as much talent as this game does.’

Powell, who is deciding between USC and Florida, said he was aware of the Pete Carroll-to-the-Seattle Seahawks rumors and acknowledged that they could affect his college decision. Asked if Caroll leaving would make Florida the frontrunner, Powell said, ‘Yeah.’
