The students from Encino Crespi didn’t have a warm greeting for 6-foot-11 Gilles Dierickx from West Hills Chaminade who was making his varsity debut Monday after arriving last year from Belgium.

‘USA, USA, USA,’ the Crespi fans chanted.

Dierickx came off the bench to score 13 points in a solid effort, but Chaminade (8-13, 1-7) couldn’t overcome falling behind, 18-0, to start the game and lost to the Celts, 53-43. Crespi, ranked No. 2 in Southern Section 4A, improved to 13-8 and 5-3 in the Mission League.

In the Western League, Fairfax defeated Venice, 78-49, with Jordan Weathers scoring 28 points and getting nine rebounds. Fairfax is 11-8 and 3-2.
