Boys’ basketball: It could be Fairfax-Westchester Lite

The walls might be sweating inside the cramped Fairfax High gym on Wednesday night when the Lions play host to top-ranked Westchester, but will the Comets break a sweat against a nemesis that appears to be a couple of notches below its usual dominating level?

Let’s look at Fairfax’s early season resume: The Lions (9-5) had good victories over Santa Monica, Las Vegas Durango and North Bethesda (Md.) Georgetown Prep before embarking on a four-game losing streak that ended Monday with a 57-47 victory over Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies.

Westchester (12-2) has been steamrolling opponents as usual, opening Western League play with a 76-34 victory over Venice.
