Girls' basketball: Mater Dei defeats Long Beach Poly in TOC semifinal

December 21, 2009 |  4:37 pm

Mater Dei clinched a spot in the finals of the Joe Smith division at the Nike Tournament of Champions.

HoopGurlz tweeted that Mater Dei just defeated Long Beach Poly, 56-50, in their semifinal. Mater Dei will face the winner of the Brea Olinda-Stockton St. Mary's semifinal tonight.

Long Beach Poly's Ariya Crook-Williams brought her team within three points after hitting a three-pointer late in the fourth. Poly called a timeout with 19 seconds left, trailing 53-50, but couldn't execute a comeback.

The Monarchs' Jordan Adams converted both of her free throws at the end of the game to seal the deal for the Monarchs.
