Junior defensive tackle Todd Barr of Lakewood stripped the ball from Edison quarterback Matt Viles, and Justin Utupo recovered it on the Lakewood 24 to deny the Chargers a chance to widen their 14-7 lead. That’s the halftime score.

There was a huge turnaround at the end of the quarter. A bad punt snap enabled Lakewood to take over the ball on Edison’s 18-yard line trailing, 14-7. But after three plays, the Lancers tried a 34-yard field goal. It was blocked by Edison’s Jeff Trojan.

The Chargers took over the ball on their own 42 and moved it to the eight-yard line after a 29-yard reception by Luke Eddy. Instead of settling for a field goal, Edison gambled and Viles lost the ball.
