I just got off the conference call with Ken Gunn, the event director for the CIF state championship bowl games, and he said the decision on whether to select Crenshaw or Servite for the Open Division game produced the longest discussion and was the toughest choice for the 10 commissioners today.

He also indicated that because Servite had one loss and Crenshaw was unbeaten might have been the difference in a close call.

It should be pointed out is that there are eight first-time bowl teams out of the 10 selected. There were 13 undefeated teams out of 50 teams eligible for the 10 spots, and five of the undefeated teams were selected.

This could be the final year for the bowl games to be played at Home Depot Center. Bidding is taking place for next year. Home Depot has submitted a bid, along with the Coliseum, Bakersfield, Clovis, Stanford and San Jose State.
