Does anyone think Narbonne (8-5) has a chance to beat Crenshaw (13-0) on Saturday at the Coliseum? Probably not, but the fact is the Gauchos are one of the few teams in the City Section to have talent in certain areas to match the Cougars.

Quarterback Chad Dashnaw has passed for 3,252 yards and 31 touchdowns. Running back Melvin Davis has rushed for 1,542 yards and strengthened the defense since he started playing linebacker during the playoffs. And defensive back Sean Parker has caught nine TD passes and is one of the most recruited players in the City Section.

The fact Narbonne has made it back to the Coliseum despite graduating 29 players from last season’s co-championship team is a tribute to Coach Manuel Douglas, who has abandoned the wing T in favor of the spread, and it looks like the Gauchos are going to be a contender for years to come. Their quarterback in waiting, freshman Troy Williams, is supposed to be a good one.

But they’re going to have to play better than they have all season to challenge Crenshaw, which is very motivated because the Cougars lost to Narbonne in last year’s semifinals. And I just don’t think Narbonne has the speed or the defensive strength to slow down the Cougars.
