OK, if someone told me that Verdugo Hills, which plays in one of the weakest leagues in the City Section, the East Valley League, defeated Palisades from the powerful Western League, I’d say, ‘You’re joking.’

Well, it’s no joke. The Dons improved to 3-0 Friday night with a 69-58 victory over No. 21-ranked Palisades in an opening game of the San Fernando Valley Invitational.

What that score alone tells me is that Verdugo Hills is going to coast to an East Valley League championship.

Complete scores in the 32-team tournament can be found here.

One performance to note is that Chaminade’s Jamal McClerkin scored 24 points in a 68-48 victory over North Hollywood.

Ribet defeated L.A. University, 65-64, on a three-pointer by Danovan Price at the buzzer. Anthony Harris had 20 points and 11 rebounds for University (5-5). Ribet (5-2) got 21 points from Greg Sequele.
