Boys’ basketball: USC-bound Jones gets 25 points

USC-bound Bryce Jones, who had to sit out last season from playing varsity basketball because of transfer rules, scored 25 points in his varsity debut for Woodland Hills Taft in an 84-37 victory over Carson in the Westchester tournament. Another player who was ineligible last season, DeAndre Daniels, had 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Taft will play Los Angeles Windward in Thursday’s quarterfinals at 6 p.m. Windward defeated Morningside, 65-46. In other games, Leuzinger defeated Community Charter, 89-69, and Washington defeated Horizon, 75-55.

Wednesday’s quarterfinal schedule includes Westchester-Peninsula at 6 p.m. and Crenshaw-Compton Centennial at 7:30 p.m.
