Boys' basketball: New rankings

OK, I admit it. I was as off the mark with the preseason rankings as the late Chris Farley in that can't-hit-a-shot-to-save-his-life commercial he did many years ago. Eisenhower? Pacific Hills? What was I thinking?

You'll notice some new teams in the rankings this week. Like, about half of the top 25. Let's just hope that I get better each week, like the bottle of 1976 Chateau Palmer I have socked away.

Here, for your perusal, are the latest rankings that will appear in Monday's paper, with record and last week's ranking in parentheses:

1. Westchester 4-0 (1)

2. Taft 3-1 (2)

3. Mater Dei 4-0 (3)

4. Loyola 3-0 (6)

5. Long Beach Poly 4-0 (8)

6. Gardena Serra 3-1 (7)

7. Leuzinger 3-1 (11)

8. Fairfax 3-1 (10)

9. Ocean View 3-0 (13)

10. Price 4-0 (18)

11. Corona Centennial 3-1 (4)

12. Orange Lutheran 0-0 (12)

13. Compton Centennial 2-2 (NR)

14. Thousand Oaks 3-1 (14)

15. Rancho Verde 4-0 (22)

16. Los Osos 4-0 (23)

We're still hoping you get a clue who the best football team in SoCal is. Hint: Crenshaw is about #4.

I believe Community Charter Early College High School should be included in top 25. They fared well in the Westchester tourney....
