Sylmar High boys’ basketball coach Bort Escoto averages about two ejections a season, and he got his first last Saturday in the Pasadena tournament. He won’t be coaching the Spartans for tonight’s game against Fremont.

‘I probably lead the City in ejections,’ Escoto said. ‘I didn’t deserve to get thrown out because all I tried to do is ask a question. I’ve been ejected enough times to know when I deserve to be ejected.’

Escoto, who has coached for 16 years, said he has never been ejected after Jan. 21. That means officials, beware. He’s got one more ejection in him before the new year. Sylmar is off to an 0-4 start without its standout player from last season, Tyler Honeycutt, now a freshman at UCLA.
