Boys’ basketball: Fairfax guards come through

Senior guards Jordan Weathers and Raymond Barry scored 25 and 23 points to help L.A. Fairfax open its season with an 81-68 victory over Bakersfield in the Redondo tournament. Bakersfield sophomore guard Tyrone Wallace scored 32 points.

The Lions will play Santa Monica Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Santa Monica defeat Mayfair, 66-65.

In other games, Long Beach Poly received 16 points from Shelton Boykin and 14 from Ryan Anderson in a 75-26 victory over Los Angeles Locke. In the consolation bracket, Pacific Hills defeated Gardena, 62-50, and Bishop Montgomery defeated Lynwood, 66-64.In Wednesday’s quarterfinals, Compton will play Harvard-Westlake at 5:40 p.m., Palisades will play Poly at 7 p..m. and Gardena Serra will take on Redondo at 8:20 p.m.
