Boys' basketball: Deonte Burton is early season standout
There's no doubt who's the early season discovery in high school basketball. It's senior guard Deonte Burton of Compton Centennial.
He had to sit out last season after transferring, and he's sure making up for lost time. He had 40 and 38 points in the Westchester tournament, and on Monday night, he helped Centennial upset Long Beach Poly, 73-66, in the Ocean View tournament. He had 22 points.
Burton was the Westchester tournament MVP even though his team finished fourth. That's astonishing.
