The Los Angeles Board of Education does lots of stupid stuff, and one example is mandating that sports teams can’t practice in the afternoon or evening on the days that there are professional development days.

So today, the football teams participating in the City Section Division I and II championship games this week couldn’t practice because it was a professional development day. But the bands could practice, the drama clubs could practice, the debate teams could practice. Yes, other extracurricular organizations get to practice, but not sports teams.

Either all extracurricular activities should be banned or they all should be allowed. To single out sports teams leaves the City Section at a disadvantage. Does anyone think one of the Southern Section finalist football teams would be prevented from practicing today?

It’s laughable, and it’s time for common sense to win out.
