L.A. Roosevelt and its fans are celebrating
The 75th meeting between Los Angeles Roosevelt and Los Angeles Garfield is over, and Roosevelt is the one celebrating after a 28-16 victory.
The Roughriders trailed at halftime, 9-7, but the game turned around when Manny Ayon was inserted at quarterback to start the second half. He rushed for 111 yards, all in the second half. He passed for a touchdown and ran for a touchdown.
Elgin Rosales added 112 yards rushing. Roosevelt (8-1, 5-0) leads in the series 40-29-6 and clinched at least a share of the Eastern League championship. Garfield dropped to 4-5 and 2-3.
East Los Angeles College was close to capacity.

This time RHS did their HW, great 1/2 time adjustment. GHS didn't expect it. Plus, the turnovers hurt them.

Like always a very exiting high school football game, congrat's to my Rough Riders for their 40th victory in the classic for over 70 years, Mike Garrett should be proud, way to go coach Cid and staff keep on rolling into the city playoffs, it might be the last football classic we'll see because of the financial school cuts what a shame on politics that is affecting our kids and families, GO ROUGH RIDERS BE CHAMPIONS>>>> Daniel Herrera Class of 1986
