Give Woodland Hills Taft junior tailback/defensive back Shaquille Shelton complete credit for giving the Toreadors a 14-14 tie with 4:40 remaining in the second quarter following Matthew Fernandez’s extra point.

On Dorsey’s previous drive, junior quarterback Joseph Gray connected with senior wide receiver Agent Alexander, but he quickly fumbled the ball at the Dons’ 37-yard line.

Six plays after Shelton picked up the fumble, he ran in for a 23-yard touchdown.

Both Taft and the Dons had chances later in the quarter to keep the scoreboard active, but mistakes nullified those opportunities.

On Dorsey’s drive following Shelton’s touchdown run, Taft senior linebacker Anthony Ascencio intercepted Gray’s pass at the Dons’ 32-yard line.

After Taft went three-and-out on its next drive, Gray found senior wide receiver Robert Herron on second-and-eight at the Toreador’s 48-yard line with a clear path to the end zone. But Herron dropped the pass at the 25-yard line.

With 54.4 seconds remaining in the half, Taft managed the clock and its timeouts effectively to put itself within striking distance. On third-and-11 on Dorsey’s 33-yard line, senior quarterback Bam Goodall tried connecting with Shelton, but Dons senior defensive back Charles Garrett broke up the pass as time expired.
