Football: It's Crenshaw, then everyone else

November 8, 2009 | 10:39 am

One of the most entertaining moments comes when attending a City Section seeding meeting and watching the coaches argue over which teams should be placed in the playoff bracket. These are the same coaches whose teams are playing, so no one hides there's a conflict of interest.

In the football seeding meeting, the fun starts almost immediately as some coach decides to nominate his team for No. 1 seed over the obvious No. 1 seed. This year, however, if any coach dares to put themselves up for No. 1 ahead of 9-0 Crenshaw in Division I, they'd lose all credibility, so I'm assuming the Cougars will be the No. 1 seed.

After that, it will get interesting. If Carson wins the Marine League title, I expect them to be No. 2, followed by No. 3 Venice and No. 4 Narbonne.

The only seedings that matter are to be in the opposite bracket of Crenshaw so a team gets the chance to reach the Coliseum to play the Cougars in the final. That's where the maneuvering is going to take place. It starts on Saturday.
