No. 5 San Pedro vs. No. 12 Dorsey
No. 4 Taft vs. No. 13 Garfield
No. 3 Venice vs. No. 14 Sylmar

Crenshaw vs. Carson in the Coliseum...don't think this will be an automatic win for the Shaw.....they are a tremendous team, BUT the Colts can play with anyone.

How did birmingham get in with a 3-7 record?
El Camino went 9-1 and they gave taft a good game!!!
birming wins 3 league games and el camino wins 4 and they dont get in??? wow!!!
Posted by: Kavon S. | November 15, 2009 at 07:58 AM
Roosevelt wins the eastern league and they're playing in the Division 2 tournament. Why?
Posted by: Richard | November 15, 2009 at 08:11 AM
Um..Kavon? You may want to check the Div II seedings where El Camino is ranked #3.
Posted by: Hey Zeus | November 15, 2009 at 12:49 PM
Before the season started the coaches from each school chose to go to either the upper division or the lower.
El camino chose to go to the lower division and thats why there not in the upper division.
Roosevelt did win the eastern league but they chose to go to the lower division before the season started.
The la city playoffs are all screwed up and thats because the la city cif office cant get it right and they let the coaches choose where they want to play.
There are a lot of coaches who chose the easier way to a title than playing for the major. In the same context you have schools that win there league but have no business playing with the likes of crenshaw because they would get ther butts kicked easily.
Arleta went undefeated last year and won the lower division title, but they chose not to play with the big boys this year, Coach Engilman has played for both titles before so if anyone can answer the question as to why didn't you move up it would be him.
Its obvious that crenshaw is the top dawg this year and if they dont look past anyone they should be playing for the state title come december.

nobody respects venice lol... we won in probably the toughest league in la this year and gave oaks christain everything they were worth... we are the team to watch this year. we will be meeting crenshaw in the championship.

Chico:
I agree that nobody gives Venice as much respect as they should, but the Western League is by no stretch of the imagination the toughest league in the City--and that is why a lot of people don't respect Venice.
Secondly, Venice can't meet Crenshaw in the finals, because they're on the same side of the bracket. If the Gondos can break that quarterfinal curse, they'll likely meet Crenshaw in the semis.

Santee helped itself with a 7-3 record. So "Coach" please don't be surprised when you are surprised! Anything can -and usually does- happen at this time in the season, especially in the City Section ...and stop picking on the inner-city, speed kills!

I see emotions are running high, and there is a lot of bickering amongst programs about,"why we have to play Crenshaw?" Well, you must face the unavoidable. This Crenshaw Cougar team is poised, and groomed to WIN!
What you all fail to realize is WE have lost three straight years in the semi finals to the teams that would eventually become the City Champions. We have lost to teams that where better then us, and not better. We took are lumps to Birmingham and Narbonne, all on the road. Now you must take a trip to "Bone Crusher Stadium!"
As far as, the once perennial, Birmingham Patriots goes, the Dj already has James Brown, cued up... "The Big Payback!!!"
As far as Norbonne, they dodged an even bigger bullet then last year! WE never thought they where that low to loss to Banning at home to avoid being in the upper bracket. Good coaching!

Finally...CRENSHAW NATION puts it out there, we've all been thinking it right?
Posted by: P | November 17, 2009 at 09:55 AM
CRENSHAW NATION!!
Come on now, you didn't think coach douglass was a moron did you, he played his cards right and got jordan.
Jordan is no slouch but its not CRENSHAW!!
Crenshaw is gonna lay the SMACKDOWN on birmingham come thursday night. I wouldn't be surprised if the won by 24 or more points.

Funny thing! I'm Dorsey Dons 4 Life, but I will say Crenshaw is the buisness! They will not be beat! Should I say it again? THEY WILL NOT BE BEAT!
Who cares about the other divisions!!!!! Birmingham, Venice, Taft, or anyone else you want to throw in an upset mix! Your luke warm at best!
You'll have problems against Dorsey! San Pedro gets the first thrashing!
Respect to those Crenshaw/Baldwin Hills Boys where the talent pool is plentiful as evident of Crenshaw & Dorsey!

So..let me get this right.
Eastern League champion, Roosevelt (8-2), is seeded 2nd in the DIV II play-offs. Meanwhile, Garfield (5-5), 3rd in the Eastern League is playing for the DIV I play-offs.
West Valley league runners-up, El Camino Real (9-1), is playing for the DIV II play-offs. At the same time, Birmingham (3-7), who won their last three games after starting 0-7 gets the last spot in the DIV I play-offs. Gardena (5-5), from the powerful Marine League stays home.
Why can't the city do this;
a) There are NINE leagues in the city. The top three finishers from each league get automatic bids. That's 27 teams qualifying. In addition, have five AT LARGE berths to the best fourth place finishers. That will total 32.
b) A 32 team play-off system will require five weeks to determine the champion. (from 32 to 16 to 8 to 4 to 2). As it is now, each Division has 16 teams which means it taks only four weeks to determine the champion. Not that big of a deal adding one extra play-off week.
c) Season too long? No, just eliminate ONE pre-season game (there are five) for each school to accomodate and add ONE play-off week.
d) Have ONE Los Angeles City Champion. Making the play-offs used to be a very noble accomplishment. Now, coaches CHOOSE which level to play BEFORE the season begins? 5th place teams sometimes make the play-offs as do teams with 2-8 records. IN all honesty, they DON't deserve it.
Are the folks who set this up in REHAB? lol...

For a Dorsey man to say that takes a lot heart! I am Crenshaw 4 Life and if we didn't have the team to finish strong I would say that. This Crenshaw team is perhaps the best ever and that is saying alot. This team has been together for a long time and they are humble and focused. There speed and football intellect is AWSOME! They will win the City and perhaps the State for the next two years. This team is young as well! Think about this! They have not even ran Black Mamba that much. Well, get prepared for a huge dose of him. He will run for over 150 yards against Birmingham!
