Boys' basketball: Tribute to Crenshaw's West

A tribute to former Crenshaw boys' basketball Coach Willie West will be held Dec. 13 at Staples Center in conjunction with the Clippers' game against San Antonio.

West, whose teams won eight state and 16 City Section titles, will be honored during a pregame salute at 3:30 p.m. and during the Clippers' game. After the game, there will be an all-star game featuring players from local schools and a reception at a site to be determined.

The event will be hosted by Marques Johnson, the 1978 national college player of the year at UCLA and a broadcaster with Fox Sports West, along with retired referees Booker Turner and Lorenzo Clarke. The public is welcome and special tickets are available.
