Boys’ basketball: Six straight three-pointers for freshman

My second basketball game of the season turned out to be an unforgettable performance by Los Angeles Crenshaw freshman Isaac Hamilton on Monday in the Westchester tournament. I watched him make six consecutive three-point shots in the third quarter en route to scoring 27 points in the Cougars’ 91-50 victory over Birmingham.
Hamilton made seven of eight shots from three-point range and nine of 12 overall. He’s the younger brother of former Compton Dominguez standout Jordan Hamilton. He had 17 points on Saturday in his high school debut against Blair. Crenshaw is 2-0 and will play Compton Centennial on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Earlier in the day, Peninsula opened action in the Westchester tournament with an 87-45 victory over Reseda. Andrew Menard scored 22 points, Reese Morgan had 16 and Stephen Shahnazarian had 15 points for Peninsula.
In other games, Westchester defeated King-Drew, 78-53, and Compton Centennial defeated West Torrance, 73-48. Dwayne Polee Jr. had 20 points for Westchester.
On Tuesday, Taft plays Carson at 7:30 p.m. in the featured first-round game.
