Football: Montana, Gretzky get big-time treatment
The New York Times had a story today on Oaks Christian's Nick Montana and Trevor Gretzky. It's a good read and gives the Lions a little more hype.

Everyone needs to stop bashing Oaks Christian. They have the right to play who and where they want to. If the Administration, Athletic Director and Head Coach want to play in D10 - so be it. No one is bashing Corona Centennial for only playing in D2. No one is bashing Moorpark and Westlake for playing in D4. The only reason everyone is bashing them is becasue they WIN. As far as Coach Redell, he is a master of public relations. I have known Coach since his days at Crespi and St Francis. His office door, office phone and cell phone are always ready for the press to contact him. If schools want more press - all they have to do is open up the lines of communication. That and maybe win a few more games.

Oaks has never played a PAC 5 school. The publicity machine will not end as long as Coach Redell is there. Last summer I went to Oaks' school for a weekday passing scrimmage to watch them play Crespi. No score was kept & Oaks was very impressive. My son got to shake Will Smith's hand, Montana had just transfered. When I parked my car, the gentleman in the car next to me got out of his car with his camera equipment. Before the scrimmage started, coach Redell was talking with this cameraman, called over to his players named Montana, Gretzky & Smith for some pictures. A few days later, who's on the front page of the paper?

It's actually the other way around, 4real. Big schools don't want to lose to small schools. Thus, big schools don't schedule small schools such as Oaks. Looks bad in the rankings for the state bowls... even if the big school wins. Voters should know the difference, but it's a no-win situation. Since Oaks and St. Bonaventure have the funding, they should probably be independent of any league like some colleges. Go ND!

Whats really going on here? Oaks gets a national campaign and alemany gets a slap in the face for a newspaper ad? How many times is oaks gonna get media time while another school just tries to brace the classified section. How much does Oaks (or the players famous fathers) "DONATE" to the Southern Section, or media coverage. This is also on the local papers who cover all these circus acts. Pretty soon football transfers are going to be worse than high school basketball transfers. Not to mention that OAKS has been afraid to schedule major Pac-5 teams.

Give Cathedral High School Phantoms some Shine!! The only Fatherhood Moment I wish I had back and could make up was not sending my Son to Cathedral his Freshmen Year (terrible mistake)...They laid out a lovely affordable plan for us but the location was hurting us deep, not far but not smooth to get to. I'm with you Armando but Midtown is the Heart of LA...Cathedral is more like the Left Leg.
Cathedral High is Down with the Black and Brown and 98% of the students go on to 4-year colleges. Cathedral High School is doing the Right Thing on and off the Field and when all those Oaks and Cubs fall, Cathedral High Phantoms will still be standing Tall!! Check the Yearbook!!

That just means Oaks will stomp SC 138 - 0 (or 3).

How about giving the Cathedral High School Phantoms football team a little publicity? The school is located in the heart of LA, they've blown everyone out to date (including last week's 69-7 win over Santa Clara, a school that's in the same league with Oaks Christian), yet no paper seems to cover them.
