Dietrich Riley of La Canada St. Francis is supposed to take a recruiting trip to South Bend, Ind., this weekend to watch Notre Dame take on USC, but first up is a huge test on Friday night against Sherman Oaks Notre Dame.

The Golden Knights will put their 5-0 record and No. 1 ranking in the Western Division on the line, and there’s plenty of people wondering just how good the team is.

With wins over Arcadia, Crescenta Valley, Burbank Burroughs, Rio Mesa and El Rancho, St. Francis has not played a top 25 team.

But Notre Dame (4-1) had trouble tackling USC-bound tailback D.J. Morgan of Woodland Hills Taft, so Riley figures to cause problems.

St. Francis Coach Jim Bonds is concerned about Notre Dame’s offense and quarterback Ryan Kasdorf.

‘Their offense is pretty explosive,’ Bonds said.
