The City Section has several important league openers on Friday night, including Birmingham at El Camino Real in the West Valley League and Narbonne at San Pedro in the Marine League.

Birmingham lost all five of its nonleague games but gets back USC-bound running back Trajuan Briggs. El Camino Real won all five of its nonleague games and gets the chance to prove it can compete with Taft and Birmingham for the West Valley League championship.

The last time Narbonne and San Pedro played was in the City Championship game at the Coliseum, and it ended in a tie. The good news is if regulation ends in a tie this time, there will be overtime.

San Pedro is 4-1. Narbonne is 2-3. Narbonne has played the tougher schedule, with games against Long Beach Poly, Orange Lutheran and Los Alamitos, but if the Gauchos can’t run the ball effectively, they could be in trouble.
