Something strange happens at halftime of Chaminade games. Backup linebacker Anthony Vanegas takes off his jersey and shoulder pads and performs for the school band, playing snare drum.

‘Welcome to Chaminade,’ Coach Ed Croson said. ‘That’s OK for us.’

It’s still a little unusual seeing Vanegas walk around in cleats, but he was in the drum line last week at halftime during Chaminade’s game against Loyola.

We’ll see what happens tonight against Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, which has another football player who’s a member of the band, lineman Ben Gottschalk. But Gottschalk doesn’t play in the band at halftime.
