Boys’ basketball: Gary Franklin Jr. picks California

California and Coach Mike Montgomery have won the recruiting battle for Santa Ana Mater Dei point guard Gary Frankin Jr., who announced Friday he has committed to the Golden Bears.

Franklin had previously committed to USC when Tim Floyd was the Trojans’ coach. Baylor and Arizona State also made strong attempts to land Franklin.
