Football: No QB controversy at Long Beach Poly

Sophomore Chaiyse Hales took the final snaps at quarterback for Long Beach Poly during a 30-7 loss to Servite, but sophomore Dylan Lagarde will probably be back under center next week when the Jackrabbits start their next game against St. Bonaventure.

Poly Coach Raul Lara said he had planned to play both quarterbacks Thursday night but was unable to get Hales into the game until garbage time because of the way things unexpectedly unfolded.

"I thought Dylan did OK," Lara said. "He just missed a little bit, whether he threw it too long or the receiver was not really running, whatever the case may be. There were also a couple of drops. I thought for the most part for his first varsity start, he did a good job."

Lara said a third quarterback, senior Chris Leachman, is pushing the sophomores in practice and could contend for playing time.

"The quarterback position will always be competitive," Lara said. "We always want them to battle and whoever battles well in practice will end up being the starter."

Grandma Watching

Coach Lara needs to invest sometime with players on the sideline that are very capable. No one for Poly's defense came to play, they were watching the game from 2 feet away. There was no game in Poly's play. Use your kids on the sideline that want to play and will hit or wrap up the opposition. As for the offense, there is no one who really wants to catch that ball, yes there were a few bad passes aired out there but give me some X factor and go after the ball.
I really think that Servite is not the powerhouse they feel they are, but their crowd certainly have spirit.
Coach Lara needs to come out with fresh eyes. Reach out and light the fire under your kids Coach its there you have to now BRING IT. I know you have a few players on the side that can spark that fire, put them in and light it. We who are Poly fans are waiting. You are the MAN coach BRING IT.
