D.J. Morgan of Woodland Hills Taft is already the fastest hurdler for his age in the world. He’s also one of the best running backs.

At least that’s the opinion of Sherman Oaks Notre Dame coaches after Morgan torched the Knights for touchdown runs of 69, 44 and 60 yards while rushing for 235 yards in 19 carries on Friday night. Notre Dame defeated Taft, 45-27.

‘He’s a heck of a player,’ Notre Dame Coach Kevin Rooney said. ‘He’s exceptionally quick and elusive. We had a hard time tackling him.’

Remember, Notre Dame players are used to tackling the best in the Pac-5 Division, from Anthony Barr of Los Angeles Loyola to Long Beach Poly running backs.

And few, if any, have run as freely as Morgan did, which makes his accomplishment even more impressive.

He has committed to USC, so at least Pete Carroll had something to smile about over the weekend.
