Birmingham Coach Jim Rose said USC-bound running back Trajuan Briggs is scheduled to visit his doctor on Monday and hopefully get a boot removed from his injured ankle. He’s still not expected to return until the Patriots’ West Valley League opener against Woodland Hills El Camino Real on Oct. 16.

Birmingham is 0-3 entering another tough game Friday against Sherman Oaks Notre Dame. The Patriots have decided to promote freshman receiver Taj Wheeler to varsity. Wheeler will become the first freshman to play for the Patriots since running back Milton Knox.
