Los Angeles Loyola showed last weekend that it might have the No. 1 water polo team in Southern California, knocking off No. 1 Newport Harbor and No. 2 El Toro to win the South Coast tournament championship.

The Cubs’ top player has been Nikola Vavic, the son of USC water polo coach Jovan Vavic. He’s a junior national team member, but the Cubs also have four youth national team members under Coach Erik Healy.
