Baseball: Services for Gail Stevenson on Thursday

A memorial service for Gail Stevenson, the wife of longtime El Segundo baseball Coach John Stevenson who died last week after a 4 1/2-year battle with ovarian cancer, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in El Segundo. She was 68.

Gail had worked at El Segundo High as as an administrative assistant and had been married to John for 39 years. John has been the baseball coach at El Segundo for 50 years.

Gail was born in San Francisco and attended Burlingame High and Lawton College before working as a medical assistant for several doctors in the Beverly Hills area.

Gail is survived by her husband, son Eric, daughter-in-law Sue-Jean and granddaughter Allie. In lieu of flowers, Gail had requested that contributions be made to friend Lindsay Weems, a 32-year-old who is beginning a battle with ovarian cancer. Contributions may be sent to "Getting it done for Lindsay" c/o John Stevenson, 328 Whiting Street, El Segundo, CA 90245.

A reception will follow the memorial service at Occasions at 139 Richmond Street in El Segundo.
