Football: Who’s the best in Southern California?

Starting Wednesday, The Times will launch a nine-part series previewing the top football players in Southern California for the 2009 season.

There will be a top players’ list featuring players recommended by area high school coaches.

Leading off the series is profile on Los Angeles Loyola running back Anthony Barr. Barr is bigger, stronger and faster entering his senior season.

In early practices, Barr is also making an impact on defense at strong safety.

‘Anthony has really made his presence known that he’s a defensive guy,’ Coach Jeff Kearin said.

Take a look at the video below showing Barr in the weight room and talking about his goals and aspirations for the coming season, along with Kearin discussing Barr’s skills.
