Jerry Stone, Lakewood’s star senior tailback, was charged today with two counts of attempted murder in connection with a gang-related drive-by shooting Friday in Compton in which no one was injured.

The 17-year-old is being held in juvenile hall and faces a litany of charges in addition to the murder charges. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office has filed a motion to have the juvenile tried as an adult, according to spokeswoman Jane Robison. Stone is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Compton Juvenile Court.

The loss of Stone less than two weeks before Lakewood’s opener against Crenshaw is a big blow, though the Lancers still have a talented core returning with quarterback Jesse Scroggins, receiver Kevin Anderson, safety Dion Bailey and defensive lineman Justin Utupo.
