There’s a familiar face coaching the Pump N Run Elite team. Former UCLA Coach Jim Harrick, who turns 71 on Saturday, is on the sideline again.

Harrick singled out two players he likes on his travel team -- Westchester All-City guard Jordin Mayes and Harvard-Westlake forward Erik Swoope.

‘He’s a big-time competitor,’ Harrick said of Mayes. ‘He’s good with the ball, he’s good without the ball.’

As for the 6-foot-6 Swoope, Harrick said, ‘He’s just getting better and better.’

Harrick said he’s trying to stay in the background, but it’s hard to ignore someone who won an NCAA title with UCLA in 1995 and has been a fixture on and off in Southern California since he was coaching at Inglewood Morningside High in the 1960s.
