Football: Eagle Rock gets a new coach and a fresh start

June 11, 2009 | 10:29 am

Greg Pierce, a former assistant at Crescenta Valley, has taken over the troubled Eagle Rock football program and appears on his way to getting the program focused in a positive way.

The numbers coming out for the team are up, and the Eagles are scheduled to play in several summer passing tournaments.

"The kids have been working very hard," Pierce said.

on the comment that the numbers are up last year eagle rock had 150 players come out for football. At this point there is 45 on jv and 28 on varsity. with 5 core players transfering out of the school. two went to cathedral, one crespi, and two went to franklin with at least 3 more player looking for other schools. if chow was here we would have 200 in the program. 2. in the comment that coach pierce is doing things in a positive manner is not true. he has chased away approx 25 players because of his fathers offensive philosophy and arrogance and coach pierce inability to use his player in the right place. note: coach pierce father was fired by coach lopez for stricking a player during a passing league game last year why is he back.

anamonous parent

Concerned parent the JV team at Eagle Rock have been practicing for approx. 5 hours a day 1:30pm to 6:30pm and condition for one hour and a halve non stop and practice the rest of the time. I'm afraid that my son may get hurt . I checked the rules and I believe that the team can only practice for only two hours. Can anyone please tell me if this rule is correct.

Wow! What happened to Coach Lopez? He was a GREAT "FRESH" start! Evidently he was NOT given a FAIR chance to prove himself. Coach Lopez was there only 1 year, when you are suppose to evaluate after 3 years. What happened to "The Eagle Rock Way"?

GET REAL

"I'm afraid that my son may get hurt"
FOOTBALL IS NOT A VIOLENT SPORT!!
Dont worry about him. You should worry about your grammar thou.

not concerned

I have watched and seen how hard these young men are working. The coaching staff is doing a great job, and players are competing hard in passing competitions this summer. Some selfish players transferred beacuse the offense did not suit them. The players that are buying in to Coach Pierce's program are doing a fine job. Last year with Coach Lopez was a mess. Players showed up the first week of school and were able to play without practice. This year there is some accountability. Things look on the up and up. Also Get your facts straight, Coach Pierce Sr. was not fired for striking a player, the only person struck last year was Coach Lopez himself by a previous ER FOOTBALL ALUMNI. Coach Pierce Sr. was only trying to enforce discipline and used some bad judgement on choice of words to tell the player to leave. Coach Lopez stuck up for a player that was not even eligible to play, instead of backing his offensive coordinator. I look for Eagle Rock to be very competitive this year. The JV program is working very hard. Both programs are getting rid of players that do not believe in the "TEAM" concept.
