Los Angeles Jordan sophomore Umeka Anderson collapsed while running the third leg of the 4x400 this evening at Birmingham High and was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Fire department paramedics were summoned after an umpire who watched Anderson collapse approached and found her unresponsive. Anderson, 16, was administered oxygen and appeared to respond to questioning from paramedics.

Jordan track Coach Keri Hamilton said Anderson might have suffered a panic attack.

‘She has an anxiety issue,’ Hamilton said. ‘This is like the biggest meet she’s ever competed in.’
