Twenty-seven of the nation’s top 19-and-under athletes are currently at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., competing for a spot on the 2009 USA Basketball Women’s U19 World Championship Team.

San Bernardino Cajon senior Layshia Clarendon is vying for one of 12 spots on the two-time defending FIBA U19 World Championship Team. Clarendon, the only high school player from Southern California in consideration for the team, was named the California Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year by Cal-Hi Sports. She’s also a WBCA, Parade and Max Preps All-American and was featured on ESPN and Sports Illustrated.
