What is it about El Segundo’s baseball program and longevity?

Eagles Coach John Stevenson has won more than 1,000 games and been around the program 50 years. Alum George Brett was a Hall of Fame mainstay for parts of three decades with the Kansas City Royals.

And earlier this month, Derryl Cousins, the older brother of El Segundo assistant Craig Cousins and a former Eagle himself, worked his 4,000th game as a major league umpire.

‘I have nowhere close to that number [of games] left,’ Cousins, 62, who is in his 30th major league season, told mlb.com. ‘I haven’t really thought about it yet, but when you get to that number, you’re getting close to the end.’
