When it comes to pitching, Huntington Beach Marina has the hottest pitching staff in the Southland. The Vikings won the Darryl Kile Memorial tournament championship Saturday night with a 1-0 victory over Vista Murrieta. Three of Marina’s four victories in the tournament were shutouts. And in the last five games, the Vikings have given up one run.

Junior right-hander Kevin Stoops threw Saturday’s shutout, striking out nine, walking one and allowing two hits. Marina’s only run came in on J.J. Baccari’s home run.

‘It was exciting,’ Marina Coach Paul Renfrow said of his team’s performance in the tournament.

Marina improved to 14-2 and resumes Sunset League play next week.
