Top-seeded Brea Olinda went on a 19-3 run late in the first quarter and early in the second to gain a 26-17 halftime lead over Huntington Beach Edison in the girls’ Southern Section Division II-AA championship game at Santa Ana Mater Dei High.

Edison senior forward Mary Madden made a quick four-point play at the end of the second quarter to reduce Brea’s 13-point lead to nine, when she missed her free throw on a continuation play, caught her rebound, and quickly converted a put-back layup.
