Boys’ basketball: Bishop Montgomery pulls off the win in double overtime

Senior guard Michael Panaggio made a three-point basket from the wing at the buzzer in the second overtime to lift top-seeded Bishop Montgomery to an 85-82 victory over Price in the boys CIF Division IV Southern Regional championship game at Cal State Fullerton.

Senior guard Justin Cobbs made six three-pointers and had game-high 31 points for Bishop Montgomery (28-4). Junior forward Richard Solomon had 18 points and 15 rebounds, and Panaggio made three three-pointers for 14 points.

Junior guard Allen Crabbe led Price (29-6) with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Senior guard Kelvin Smith had 22 points and 10 rebounds, and Keith Taylor scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Bishop Montgomery advances to next Saturday’s state championship game in Sacramento. The Knights have not played in a state-title game since 2001 when they won the second of consecutive titles in Division III.

Price last appeared in the state finals in 2005 after winning five Division V titles in six consecutive championship appearances. Price holds the record for the most consecutive appearances as well as the most overall appearances in Division V title games.
