There was no drama in the final minute this time as Eisenhower defeated Loyola for the second time in eight days, pulling out a 68-62 victory this evening at Pauley Pavilion in the Southern California Division II regional championship.

The second-seeded Eagles (31-3) took a nine-point lead into the final minute after needing a late rally to defeat the Cubs (26-7) last weekend in the Southern Section Division II-A title game.

Senior guard Andrew Bock scored 21 points for Eisenhower, which became the first San Bernardino County boys’ team to advance to a state championship game.

‘It’s exciting,’ Eagles Coach Steve Johnson said. ‘We’ve been on a pretty good run here.’

Senior forward Carl Hoffman had 34 points on 16-for-19 shooting and 12 rebounds for Loyola, which missed all 16 of its three-point attempts and had trouble defending Eisenhower’s spread offense.

‘I don’t know if we’ve been shut out all year,’ Loyola Coach Jamal Adams said of his team’s three-point shooting woes. ‘They’ve got tremendous speed and are as tenacious defenders as anyone we’ve played all year.’
