Times prep columnist Eric Sondheimer today received the Prep Sports Award from the Southern California Sports Broadcasters in a luncheon at the Lakeside Golf Club. The previous winners of the award were Oaks Christian football Coach Bill Redell and Montclair Prep football Coach George Giannini.

During his acceptance speech, Sondheimer spoke of his longtime love of prep sports and the ability to write about star athletes before they become household names.

He also talked about covering so many players who go on to do great things in professions outside sports, a point that was underscored when Dodgers Vice President of Communications Josh Rawitch mentioned during his acceptance speech for receiving the High Five Award how Sondheimer had covered him as a middle infielder at Chatsworth.
