Boys' basketball: Leuzinger two better than Windward at halftime

January 3, 2009 |  6:13 pm

It was expected to be one of the more competitive contests of Saturday's Pangos Dream Classic, and so far the event's third game featuring Leuzinger and Windward is living up to expectations. There was little between the teams through the first 16 minutes.

William Overton's steal and layup with 32 seconds left in the second quarter gave Leuzinger a 23-21 edge, then Delon Wright missed a 15-foot jumper at the buzzer that would've tied the score for Windward. Jerry Evans has eight points so far for Leuzinger, ranked No. 10 by The Times. Wesley Sanders has six to lead the Wildcats, who are No. 11 in The Times' rankings.

Anthony Stover, Windward's 6-foot-10 senior center, sent oohs and aahs through the crowd with a thunder dunk midway through the second quarter that gave the Wildcats a 19-15 lead.

Be sure to check back in a little while for a final score and a preview of the next game pitting No. 5 Etiwanda against No. 7 Dominguez.
