It came down to this -- 3.6 seconds and the Vikings needed to traverse the entire court. Well, they made it to the other end and the ball reached the right guy's hands. Jrue Holiday had a good look, took a jumper from 18-feet out and missed. The buzzer sounded. Game over.
Campbell Hall (17-5), ranked No. 5 in the Southland by The Times, lost to South Atlanta (18-1), 78-77, in double overtime Saturday night at Pauley Pavilion in the nightcap of the Pangos Dream Classic. Holiday led all scorers with 35 points. He also had 11 assists.

Campbell Hall had 7.1 seconds to bring the ball down the floor, hit a game-winning shot and send everybody home happy Saturday night at Pauley Pavilion. That didn't happen.
The Vikings missed a game-clincher at the buzzer. And here we go ... again.

Man, that was close. Like too close. Campbell Hall's Jrue Holiday sank a layup -- just as time expired in Saturday night's game. No basket.
The Vikings blew a 10-point lead, and now it's tied, 64-64. Here comes overtime at Pauley Pavilion -- four extra minutes.
Keep you posted.

It didn't go down to the wire, but there wasn't much that was disappointing about No. 5 Millikan's 61-52 victory Saturday over No. 1 Miller at the Ayala Extravaganza.
It's the second time in two weeks that Millikan has beaten The Times' top-ranked Southland team. The Rams previously beat Long Beach Poly in a Moore League game.
A lot of credit goes to Courtney Clements. She went for 29 points and 11 rebounds. She scored 19 as Millikan opened a 35-21 halftime lead.

What's worrisome, it's only a one-point league for Campbell Hall over South Atlanta -- 34-33 -- at halftime Saturday night at Pauley Pavilion.
But what's cool, it now appears to be the Holiday Season -- as in Jrue Holiday. In the waning minutes of the first half, Holiday heated up and now leads the Vikings with 14 points.

I've heard all about Campbell Hall's super-scorer, Jrue Holiday -- we all have. What about the Vikings' James Johnson? Don't know much about him. Until now.
The 6-foot-7 forward can dunk and dish, and he scored six of Campbell Hall's first 13 points as the Vikings had a three-point lead in the first quarter over Georgia's South Atlanta at Pauley Pavilion on Saturday night.

It's hard to fathom El Camino Real, winner of seven straight City Section girls' soccer titles, as an underdog. Yet halfway through their season that's precisely the position the Conquistadores find themselves in.
Katie Etcher's breakaway goal in the waning moments of Friday's game against Granada Hills might've been the biggest of the season for a young team that's had trouble finding the back of the net. It not only kept the Conquistadores (3-8-2, 2-2) in the thick of the West Valley League race, but also restored some much-needed moxie.

As the final minute ticked down, Dominguez's Jordan Hamilton committed a violation -- traveling. "See that," a King fan hollered out, "he's good but he ain't walking on water."
No, but Hamilton walked all over the Wolves with a slew of double-pump dunks, left-handed layups, right-handed floaters -- and 35 points as Dominguez (16-2) dethroned King (17-2), 68-60.
"I just stayed calm on this big stage," Hamilton said as he stepped into the Pauley Pavilion locker room. "There were a lot of people out there."

I really expected Marlborough and Cajon to be a good game Saturday at the Ayala Extravaganza.
It wasn't.
The Cajon Cowboys (Cowgirls?) looked good in the first half, openiing a 42-21 lead, and then coasted to a 65-51 victory.

Riverside King tied the score, 37-37.
Then Dominguez's Myron Green swished a three-pointer and hit another bucket during a 9-0 Dons run in the third quarter.
The Dons lead, 46-37 -- their biggest advantage of the night.
